Homemade Sweet Potato Pie Recipe

This desert is made with fresh sweet potatoes, then subtly spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.  Then evaporated milk and cream are added to help achieve a smooth and creamy texture.  Finally its whipped until smooth and creamy and then baked in the oven until it is firm and set.  Below is my recipe for a very delicious and creamy Sweet Potato Pie.

Ingredients:

2 medium sweet potatoes, cubed
1/3 cup of butter, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 eggs
3/4 cup of evaporated milk
3 tablespoons of heavy cream
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Instructions:

You will want to begin this recipe by taking a saucepan and then filling it with water.  Then place it over a medium high heat and boil your cubed sweet potatoes until soft.  This should take about 15 minutes.

Now, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

You will want to place the sweet potatoes, butter, brown sugar, salt, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla in a food processor and puree until smooth.  Then add in the eggs, milk and heavy cream and puree your ingredients once again until your ingredients have come together and are well combined.

Now,  pour your sweet potato mixture into your unbaked pie shell, leaving about 1/4 of an inch space from the top edge.

Next,  place your pie into the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.  At that point reduce the heat of your oven to 350 degrees F and then bake for an additional 30 minutes or until the filling is set in the center.  Let your pie cool and then serve with some whipped cream.
